Apparently, all of us are going to be back seat drivers in the very near future since scientists are busy developing the next generation of robot-driven cars and foresee that they might be transporting humans by the year 2030.
A competition that is going to be held in November this year by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) will witness the first wave of robot cars that will be able to understand and retort to the real world surroundings. These robot driven vehicles would be able to run in a virtual city environment.
Sebastian Thrun, an associate professor of computer science and electrical engineering at Stanford University commented:
The new challenge will be to understand the environment. The robot must be able to recognize another car, to understand that it is moving and that it will interact with it as it gets closer. It is going to have enormous significance for people who can’t drive because of disabilities or because they are ill or impaired.
Moreover, it is expected that that by 2020, the driving reliability will get a major bump and will reach up to a million miles (1.6 million kilometers) and by the year 2030, the driving consistency that will exceed humans by enormity.

The future robot cars is quite interesting . Definitely, it will produce newer and better versions of cars in the near future. Just can’t wait for it. Reminds me of an interesting topic from autopartswarehouse.com.
