Singapore’s Defense Science and Technology Agency has launched a new contest to build a robot that can operate autonomously in urban warfare conditions.
The aim of the organization is a robot that can search and destroy suspicious human targets and also act as a human soldier.
The agency is offering a sum of one million Singapore dollars to the winners of the competition.
DTSA also stated that individuals, companies, Universities and research institutes can participate in the contest and foreigners will have to collaborate with local partners to join the contest.
Currently the robots that have been designed for urban warfare missions have to be remotely controlled by a human operator. But this time DSTA is looking for Robots that can perform operations without any interference from humans and can also climb stairs and control elevators.
Designing a robot is simple but making a robot control an elevator is a difficult task as all elevators don’t have a similar mechanism. Moreover navigating these robots without any satellite means that they should have machine vision and should be able to recognize objects that come their way.
Participants must submit their applications by the end of May this year and the list of shortlisted participants will be announced in June. The final will take place in August.
