Soft bodied robots to replace hard bodied robots
Haven’t you got bored of the hard bodied robots available? If yes then a new class of soft bodied robots is being developed by Tufts University researchers which will aid in advancements in the areas of space exploration and medicine. A combination of nano fabrication, biology and bioengineering will be used for this purpose. The soft bodied robot will be developed on the basis of biological materials and adaptive mechanisms found in living organisms. The robot will have capabilities equal to that of a living animal. The research will be focusing on the following areas such as robot design and construction, control systems for soft bodies robots, development and application of research-based platform technologies and biomimetic and bionic materials. The robot developed by the university is competent enough to get deformed, collapse and crumple into small volumes. All this is not possible in the case of single machines which are available currently.
