Tufts researchers develop biomimetic soft-bodied robots
The ongoing robotic projects at the Tufts University have given birth to the biomimetic soft-bodied robots. Since the hard-bodied, stiff robots have some downsides such as restricted range of motion owing to the joints. The researchers are sniffing the making of robots using a special skin made of a silicone rubber (branded as Dragon Skin). These Gummi Bots can move about forward like a caterpillar. They hope to have one boasting full caterpillar motion by the end of the year. Such soft-bodied robots are intended to be used for various tasks such as looking for land mines or getting to tough locations.
