The scientists have found relationship between the physical movement and sensory input in the robots.
The scientists who are working on the development of AI (artificial Intelligence) say that earlier they separated physical behavior and sensory inputs. But ‘The brains inputs are not independent’, says Olaf Sporns a neuroscientist at Indiana University, US. ‘For example the motor behavior has a role to play in what the body senses from the environment.’
An increasing number of scientists are now approaching this same method called ‘embodied cognition”, says Sporns. He worked with roboticist Max Lungarella from Tokyo University in Japan, to create experiments that would test the idea.
They took some red objects and mixed them with different color objects. The Robots had to approach objects of red color. To measure the relationship between movement and vision the researchers recorded information from the robots’ joints and field of vision. They then used a mathematical technique to see how much of a causal relationship existed between sensory input and motor activity.
Now what will happen with this new research is that these experiments can lead to the development of better robots. By Maximizing information flow between sensory and motor systems could produce more flexible, capable systems.
